The Opportunity
We are representing a leading international organisation within the nuclear energy sector that is currently seeking a System Engineer (NSP / BOP / Common Systems) to join their team in Cernavoda. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to one of the most important refurbishment projects in Europe, working within a high-performing team and making a direct impact on the safe and efficient delivery of a major nuclear programme.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Superintendent (NSP / BOP / Common Systems), the System Engineer will:
- Prepare Level 3 and Level 4 Commissioning Procedures for assigned systems.
- Develop lay-up and conservation procedures for refurbishment outage preparation.
- Provide oversight on commissioning-related field activities.
- Diagnose and resolve commissioning issues in collaboration with EPC contractors.
- Prepare commissioning reports and Return to Service (RTS) procedures post-refurbishment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop in-depth knowledge of assigned system design, layout, operations, and maintenance.
- Review design modifications and commissioning documentation to align with project requirements.
- Review and accept EPC Contractor specifications and system turnover packages.
- Monitor system performance during commissioning and raise quality observations when necessary.
- Support schedule and planning teams with technical input.
- Lead, coach, and mentor junior engineers, ensuring continuous capability development.
- Prepare lessons learned and contribute to process improvements.
- Provide input to operating manuals, flowsheets, and maintenance manuals.
- Represent the team in contractor and customer interface meetings.
- Author formal documentation including specifications, reports, and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 7 years of relevant engineering experience, with at least 3 years on nuclear power plant projects.
- Hands-on knowledge of CANDU Nuclear Power Plants (commissioning, operation, maintenance, or outage work).
- Experience with CANDU refurbishment commissioning considered a strong advantage.
- Professional Engineer designation (Canada) or eligibility for PEO is preferred.
- Strong technical leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Romanian language skills beneficial but not essential.
