Commissioning Engineer

Anderson McQue (Part of MPA Group) is recruiting for our client who is a world leader in providing customised solutions in the Energy, Waste-Water Treatment and Waste sectors. Overview of the Role:

Responsible for supervising and coordinating all aspects of the Electrical, Instrument, Control & Automation [EICA] works for selected Design & Build Projects undertaken by the company in the Water division including, but not limited to procurement, installation and commissioning activities from project commencement to Client handover of the Works.

Playing an integral role within the EICA Team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on projects across a wide range of sectors, including industrial, pharmaceutical, healthcare and municipal.

This is a regional based position dependent on the successful applicant, travel to other Company sites, plants and offices throughout Ireland is a significant part of the role.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • The position includes responsibility for supervision of suppliers and sub-contractors and site-based commissioning staff. You will also co-ordinate with the project design team and Service & Maintenance Dept. as required.
  • Responsibility for ensuring the integrity and reliability of the EICA works and for monitoring performance of same.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that works are carried out in accordance with both contractual and specific process requirements.
  • The job will involve commissioning of water, wastewater and sludge treatment plants, including setup and calibration of instrumentation, variable speed drives, alarm systems and PLC input/output validation.
  • Occasional engineering support during process commissioning outside normal working hours.
  • Supervision will be predominately of electrical and automation sub-contractors on site but will occasionally include mechanical sub-contractors.
  • Assisting in proposals and tendering activities.
  • Project management assistance and engineering support.
  • Liaise with clients and client representatives.
  • Carry out FAT and SAT tests with the clients representative.
  • Evaluate client specifications and internal control philosophies and ensure works are constructed in compliance with same.
  • Ensure the works are constructed in accordance with national and EU standards and meet internal company standards.
  • Assistance in the selection and evaluation of EICA equipment, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure that all EICA documentation for the project is managed in accordance with the requirements of the Project Quality Plan.
  • Prepare commissioning plans, reports, SAT & FAT documentation and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Responsibility for ensuring the appropriate Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental [HSQE] standards are implemented on site for the project.
  • Involvement in process optimisation during commissioning.
  • Prepare timely and accurate reporting of activities to management.

Skills & Attributes for the Role:

  • National Certificate in an Electrical Engineering related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Flexibility to move from site to site for the Installation & Commissioning phases of projects.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Excellent oral and written reporting skills.
  • Previous experience (5 years min.) in industrial and/or site-based construction.
  • Previous experience in Electrical Supervision & Commissioning of Water/Waste Water Treatment plants will be an advantage.
  • Computer literacy in Google Sheets, Docs & mail will be an advantage.
